Whether you are a novice or a seasoned writer, you can’t miss Quora. You neither get paid to write on Quora nor it is a blogging platform. They why do we have 190 million monthly users and 4 million topics on Quora? That sounds strange, isn’t it? Launched in 2009, Quora claims to be a knowledge sharing platform. Simply put, if you ask a question on Quora, you will get an answer.

Who can join Quora?

Anyone for Free. Right from teens and amateur writers to experienced professionals and published authors write on Quora. If you can answer someone’s question, you are eligible to write on Quora.

Know the BNBR Policy

In Quora, you can’t ask or answer the way you like. Quora has a BNBR Policy (Be Nice, Be Respectful) and you cannot take it lightly.

Quora does not accept questions and answers that attack people, harassment, hate speech, racial or cultural issues. As a user, if you find anything violating this policy, you can report it to Quora and the content would be blocked. Quora periodically checks the quality of questions, answers and comments and takes appropriate action on them.

Upvotes

People love when they get an Upvote for an answer they write. What is an Upvote? It is similar to the Facebook or Twitter Like button. But, people may not always upvote your answer. Getting an upvote on Quora is not as easy as getting a like for your Instagram photo. People choose to upvote if they find your answer useful, meaningful, and to the point. Some people like to read short answers and others prefer stories.

Commenting

You can comment on an answer you read. Like some comment, upvote them, too. Alternatively, you can thank a person who answered your question. Make sure you comment relevant points or share your views politely.

Followers

You can follow someone if you like their answers. Similarly, when you write valuable content, others start to follow you. Don’t be bothered about your follower count. Like I said, Quora is not like Twitter or Instagram. Don’t play the follow-unfollow game here.

Answer views

Based on Quora feed, your answer is circulated to different people following your topic. More views mean more people who read your answer fully or partially. Views represent an answer’s reach to people.

Answer requests

When you post a question, anyone who follows your topic can write an answer. Additionally, you can request up to 25 specific people to answer your question. This is the best way to get expert answers to your questions. Whether or not they answer your question is their choice. Popular writers get about 100 answer requests daily.

Quora Blog

In my Quora experience, this is the most under-utilised feature. You can blog for free on Quora like many blogging platforms. Apart from asking questions and writing answers, you can write a blog post. You will get your unique blog URL and you can have many blogs with multiple posts.

Top Writer

Quora selects Top writers based on the several criteria but not restricted to answer quality, answering the question, language and clarity. When I joined Quora, I assumed Top writer’s badge is reserved for the world’s popular writers, published authors and millionaire entrepreneurs. But, I was wrong. Quora does justice to writing. Anyone writing valuable answers can get the Quora’s prestigious Top writer badge. It is an honour to the writers who spend long hours giving advice, suggestions and solutions to various problems.

Who is Quora for?

For anyone who enjoys writing.

Why do I write on Quora?

When I learnt Digital marketing about two years back, I found Quora as a good medium to promote my SEO services. But, my interests changed. Call it my passion or dream, I started to write about a year back. Writing gave me an access to express trigger the creative side of me. Luckily, my friend reminded me of Quora in December 2017.

Connecting the dots, I started to write. I have been active on Quora since then. I have answered over 300 questions.

Now, I don’t write to market my writing service. I write to share my knowledge and I feel relaxed. I don’t expect anything in return. Maybe, an upvote so I will know my answer helped someone.
